Idea

This idea occurred to me after one of the worst travel days of my life. I knew I wasn’t the only one who dreaded going to the airport. As soon as I pitched the idea to the team, we jumped into brainstorming potential solutions.

Solution

We designed an easy-to-navigate app with individual airport pages and a real-time chat feature.

Due to time constraints, we chose to focus on a few key features—most notably the chat, where travelers can message other users and airport staff for real-time updates on wait times, quiet spots to relax during layovers, coffee recommendations, etc.

After signing in, users land on the homepage, where they can quickly search for their specific airport. Each airport page includes an overview, top-rated restaurants, bars, and cafés, as well as an interactive map.

Competitive Analysis

Our initial research revealed that most airport apps have failed due to poor engagement. Unlike airline apps, which are regularly used, many airport apps are abandoned soon after launch.

Flare stands out with its unique chat feature and a business strategy focused on partnerships with airports, who can benefit from adding additional features to their pages.

User Personas

Both experienced and novice travelers are on the app to benefit from its features. Experienced travelers are also there to help guide novice travelers through the airport.

Prototype

Upon signing in, users are directed to the homepage, where they can search for their airport. Each airport page provides an overview, highly rated food and drink options, and an interactive map for easy navigation.

Next Steps

Due to time constraints, we weren’t able to expand the app design to include additional pages and features. In the next iteration, I plan to explore these ideas further and incorporate interactive elements.

Overall, I’m proud of what the team and I accomplished, and I’m excited to continue building on this foundation.
